Moving Update – Leaving England
No recipes or tips today-just life! You may have noticed that it’s been a bit crickets here on the blog the past few weeks, honestly I’ve been overwhelmed with life! After nearly a year our time in England is coming to a close. Today I’m writing this surrounded by boxes as our first shipment is being packed and carted off to meet us in Georgia next month. So much to tell you….
First, my mother came to visit earlier this month and we had a whirlwind two weeks as I carted her all around England and even took a fast three day trip to Paris-a dream trip we had talked about since I was a little girl!
It was an action packed trip-we also visited Stonehenge, Bleinham Palace, and my favorite city of Bath in addition to exploring local pubs and her getting lots of Nana time with our three boys!
After “mum” was safely back stateside I was blessed to have the opportunity to attend the Royal Ascot horse races which was one of the most amazing experiences I’ve had this year-I even got to see the queen!
It was so much fun and of course I loved dressing the part complete with a feathered fascinator!
And while the past few weeks have been all travel and fun this week we’ve turned towards the move. This will probably be our hardest military move leaving the amazing community and friends we’ve made here. My older boys (9 and 10 years old) are particularly struggling with it.
The good news is that this should actually be our LAST move! More than likely my husband will retire from the Army out of this next duty station and WE BOUGHT A HOUSE! Well, actually I’ll close on the house a couple of days after we arrive back in the US so expect LOTS of pictures coming up, but here’s a little sneak peek!
Do you see that Spanish moss?? I’m SO excited!
So, that’s where we are right now. We have one more little road trip to make this weekend and then the following weekend we have what is looking like an amazing masquerade ball to attend so I will be sure to post photos of that! Then two weeks from today I’ll be back Stateside!
Thank you for following along with our little adventure this year, and bearing with me as the blog posts get sporadic. I do have some amazing bloggers lined up to guest post for me over the next month or so as I get settled into our new home, and I can’t wait to share them with you soon.

So glad you enjoyed your time here in England. You certainly did a lot of travelling! I saw Royal Ascot on the TV. It looked amazing & it was so hot!!
Hope the move goes well.
Yes! Luckily we were there on the Friday so it wasn’t quite as hot as earlier in the week-just windy, I had to clip my fascinator on, hats were flying everywhere! We’ve absolutely loved our time in England, it’s been an amazing experience! ~Melissa
Welcome back to the States. What a big lovely house you are buying.
So glad your mum got to visit and I bet can not wait til you all are back home.
Thanks so much Jody, it’s been an amazing year but we are looking forward to getting back to the US too! ~Melissa
Your new house is gorgeous. I have enjoyed hearing about your adventures living abroad and seeing all of the pretty pictures. I hope all goes well with your move back.
Thanks Janine-everything is definitely crazy right now but I’m really looking forward to getting to the new house and being back stateside next week! This year has flown by! ~Melissa
I imagine it is crazy. Moving is always stressful and unpredictable and you’re not just going across town, this is a big move. Hang in there, you’ll be in that back over here soon and decorating your new home. The year seemed to fly by for me too. It seems like y’all just got settled over there and now it’s time to come home again.
