Marsh House Tour
I know, I know, I’ve been MIA. For a while.
Get ready….this is going to be a LONG catch up!
First, we moved.
Two years ago.
And I never shared it with you all. I’m sorry. After the pandemic madness and the crazy work on our last house, I started to feel a little spent with sharing personal things online.
I started to focus on my other websites that earn me an income (The Happier Homemaker and Shaken Together Life) and mostly just sharing recipes. After our kitchen renovation at the old house, I stopped sharing pictures of our home. We were still doing project after project, that is who we are after all, I just stopped sharing.
But I’m back. And it may take me a while but I’ve missed sharing our home with you all and I really, really think you’re going to love what we’ve been up to and seeing our new home.
Back in 2021, we put a pool in our last house. I will write up that saga soon, but trust me when I say it was a process. This was when the housing market was going crazy and home values were sky-rocketing.
The backyard looked so good when we were finished that I joked to my husband that we should sell the house. To my surprise he thought we should look into it.
We called a realtor friend (If you need a Savannah, GA realtor contact Carin Behringer, she’s amazing!!) and discussed it with her but I was a little hesitant. I was nervous that we would sell our house and not be able to find a new house that was a good fit and in our budget.
About a week later my friend called me to tell me she had a house for me to look at. I was reluctant, telling her that I didn’t want to find a house when ours wasn’t even on the market yet.
It was such a crazy market I didn’t think anyone would accept an offer on a home that was contingent on our selling our house first. She insisted and as soon as we pulled in the driveway, I was in love.
The house is a Victorian-style home with a pool, directly on the marsh. It was built in 1990 and sits on just under an acre of land. It has a double garage with a 1000-square-foot apartment over it that was unfinished when we bought it. (Oh yes, you can see how we’d LOVE that project!)
The seller had not listed the house yet. He had put an offer on another home my realtor was selling but his offer was contingent on HIS home selling. He just wanted it under contract ASAP. Even in that crazy market he was a very motivated seller and priced the house well under market value.
We looked around the house, which did need some work, and put in a full-price offer the next day (a Saturday), contingent on our home selling. He accepted without ever officially listing it on the market and it was a race to list our home for sale!
We had it listed that next Thursday and had 17 showings in 3 days. It was so stressful, getting three kids and two dogs out of the house for every showing and making sure everything was just perfect inside. After the 3rd day, we stopped showings and took offers through Sunday evening.
We ended up receiving ELEVEN full-price or above offers. (I told you the market was crazy!!) We had asked for a 6-week rent-back so accommodate the timing our seller’s closing timeline and all but 2 of the offers included that.
After a lot of prayer, we accepted an offer that was 35K over asking price and gave us the rent-back for free. It was perfection, everything lined up perfectly. God’s hand was definitely involved.
We moved in on Halloween 2021 and it’s been a whirlwind of projects. The house did NOT look like the photo above when we moved. I’ll write up more about that and all the projects we’ve done but wanted to give you just a little sneak peek of how it looks now.
There is a wrap-around brick porch on 3 sides of the house and double front doors.
The last two years we have had ferns on the porch but this year I’m trying something new. I planted two different colors of double impatiens in each hanging basket, they are just starting to fill out now, I can’t wait to see how they grow through the spring and into summer!
The walkway to the house is brick as well. We have palms everywhere and I have added a lot of flowers to the landscaping since moving in.
None of these photos are particularly staged, like I said I need to get back in the swing of things with photographing home content, but I had the urge to share so thought I should get it out there while the feeling was there.
We are surrounded by state forest on three sides, only one neighbor, which is great. BUT there are a lot of deer and other critters who have made gardening difficult. This is the 3rd location we’ve tried and my husband Randy has gated and fenced it.
I’m trying to grow some veggies and also some flowers for cutting. The paint splashed all over one of the garden beds is from when Randy fell off the roof…that story to come later as well.
Don’t you just love foxglove?
If you’ve ever lived near a marsh you know its a little squishy when you get close, I usually don a pair of boots when I walk all the way down to the edge, especially if it has rained recently. Luckily the yard slopes up towards the house so it’s not very wet except the farthest part towards the marsh.
In the very back of the yard is a wooden swing that was here when we moved in. We moved it to close to the marsh so we could enjoy the view.
Isn’t it beautiful? I am telling you, I absolutely love this home.
The gate to the pool area is covered in jasmine, which is blooming right now and makes the entire pool area smell heavenly, I wish you could smell it.
If you have smelled it before, you know what I’m talking about! This vine is massive, it must be ten years old at least!
Of course, Randy didn’t last long before adding a hot tub to the backyard. He loves a hot tub! It’s right next to that jasmine, which is wonderful when its in bloom.
You can find me with a good book, cup of coffee, or glass of bubbles in this chair when the weather is nice.
The home had a lot of tropical landscaping when we moved in but no cutting flowers, unlike our last house. We’ve put in about a dozen roses since moving in and they are showing off this year!
Just a few sneak peeks into the inside of the house, more to come later. The kitchen is massive compared to our last house. It’s a dream for cooking or entertaining.
The last owner of the house converted the back porch into a ship-lapped living room. It is one of the things that made me fall in love with the house.
It has massive windows that look out over the pool area.
That is about all for today. I hope you all enjoyed this little catch up and I promise you won’t want to miss all the projects I have backlogged to share!
