Boy’s Bathroom Remodel
Let’s update a shabby, mix-matched bathroom to modern standards!
I recently shared that we are updating our 1990 master bathroom and since we are gluttons for punishment we decided to go ahead and do our sons’ upstairs bathroom at the same time since the contractor will already be here.
The current bathroom
While the master bathroom was horrible, the boy’s bathroom was not quite as bad, but still needed to be updated. When we bought the house, the walls were bright green but we had them painted along with the rest of the Marsh house before we moved in.
The bathroom as a whole didn’t look awful but the shower definitely looked dingy and dated. and the tile colors were super dated.
Excuse the messy picture, I snapped it as my 3 teenage boys were trying to round up all the belongings to vacate the bathroom for construction!
You can see how awful the shower tile was in this picture. It just wouldn’t come clean in parts, even when I had it professionally cleaned, so it always looked dingy and dirty.
The renovation plan
Just like the master bath renovation plan, we will be gutting the entire bathroom to the studs, except for the bathroom vanities. We will use the same porcelain marble-look tile as the master bath.
We are removing the tub and making it a walk in shower. I was nervous about taking out the tub for resale value because families with younger children want bathtubs but my realtor told me that it usually isn’t a problem as long as there is a tub in the house somewhere and we will have one in the master.
The beige subway tile above will be the shower walls and the hexagon marble tile will be the shower floor. I think replacing the tub with a shower with glass doors will make the space look bigger, as will the lighter floors.
Stay tuned! I am listening to saws and drills working in the bathroom as I type!
