Autumn Home Tour 2014

Autumn home tour 14 Collage

Decorating for autumn is one of my favorite parts of the year, especially because being a blogger gives me an excuse to decorate early! This year was an adjustment as it’s our first fall in the Washington DC area…we’re in a townhouse rather than our suburban home in North Carolina so I was working with a smaller layout, especially on the porch, but it was nice to change up my decor a little over last year and the year before.

My wheat and pheasant feather wreath was the first sign of autumn on the front porch, followed by some fall annuals and treasured pumpkins I had to search high and low for! I think the wreath may move inside soon though-we get a brisk wind across the front of the house much of the time and it’s looking a little worse for the wear!

In the living room we’ve made a few changes since our summer home tour just after our move.  I removed the colorful art off the wall behind the couch and replaced it with a reclaimed wood wall hanging. The ceilings are ten feet tall on this level and it’s really difficult to figure how to decorate with all that wall space!

While I was all about color when we moved in I scaled back to a more neutral palette after a few months.  I still adore my yellow rug and the gold accents I’ve added.

Remember the chalk painted and gold leaf pumpkins I shared last week? I love them!

I updated the banner on the wall hanging with a little bling in the form of glittered letters as well.

I like the toned down colors a lot in here, especially for autumn. (But don’t worry, there’s color coming up later in the tour!)

Just off the living room is the dining area-they are totally open to each other so I kept this room in neutrals too.

I moved one of my favorite paintings in here as well-I paint rarely these days but every now and then I get inspired and something good comes out!

fall mantel

The mantel off the family room and kitchen is all done up in mercury glass and gold.  Again-I always forget to move my toddler’s little potty when I photograph the mantel and it shows up in the reflection! Oh well-keeping it real!

I used this little gold leaf garland two years ago-it’s just spray painted dollar store leaves! The wheat was in last year’s mantel as well.

And for you color lovers-the fun family room is still going full swing-a nice dose of whimsy in the area where the kiddos hang out!

I love the fun patterned pillow covers I made-you can find all the fabrics in this post.

I hope you’ve enjoyed the tour!
