Phase 1: Master Bedroom Makeover

Its finally time to reveal phase one of the Master bedroom eDesign makeover! I told you a few weeks ago that I was lucky enough to win an eDesign giveaway from Amber B Interiors and I knew my Master Bedroom was the perfect room for Amber to help me with! I had posted my dilemma with it here just the week before.  My biggest problem with the room was that my husband and I had fallen in love with some bed linens from Target which were a very cool white and grey but that combined with the warm wood of our DIY Headboard and wood furniture as well as the warm wall and carpet colors just wasn’t working for us.

Enter Amber and her amazing concept for the room:

mood board for bedroom remodel with neutral tones

You can see how I totally let a sigh of relief and awe once this design board landed in my inbox! Amber hit the nail on the head and found the perfect colors for me to use in the room to tie it all together. Plus I love all the neutrals!

Because of budget and time constraints the implementation of Amber’s eDesign will have to be done in phases (which is actually one of the wonderful things about an eDesign-you can do it at your own pace!) Phase one was paint, a new bed skirt for the bed, and new lamp shades.

Here is the before:

And here is where we are now:

A bedroom with a dark wood headboard and gray bedding
A master bedroom with tray ceiling and Benjamin Moore Alaskan Husky wall paint

Amazing, right? I’m so incredibly happy with the progress. The paint is Benjamin Moore Alaskan Husky and it is seriously GORGEOUS! Its a pale blue-gray that almost changes color depending on the light.  It really made a huge difference in the room and I loved that Amber suggested painting the tray ceiling too (although I did NOT love it while I was doing it-I have a bit of a fear of heights!)

We also switched out the lamp shades from a cream square-ish shape to white drum shape and it was a subtle but surprisingly effective change as well.

Wood dresser with TV and stack of books in front of a light gray wall

I used some books and my DIY faux brass birds to camouflage the DVD player a bit.  Amber suggested a gallery wall layout around the TV on this wall and that is one of my next projects for the room.  I also have some new pillows on the way for the bed and curtains that need to be hung.

Phase two may take me a while.  I need to get to Charlotte to pick up a new Ektorp armcahir from IKEA.  Anyone want to meet me there?? We can chat DIY over Swedish meatballs!

  5. Ok, Going to take the plunge and paint that tray ceiling. Did you only paint the vertical parts of the tray gray, or the flat parts of the upper and lower ceiling as well. The paint is so light in the pictures I couldn’t tell.
